Gil:

18 years old, Gil was brought up in a strict Catholic family and by a father who hunted and fished at their hunt camp.
Another 3 hours north of town is where Gil learned the finer arts of the hunt, later deciding that fishing best suited him,
as skinning a fish was far less gruesome a task than skinning a Moose or Deer.

The north intrigued him, the woods, the silence, the ability to be at one with himself. The north offered little vices and even less conversation as his father found less and less to talk to Gil about. Gil knew his mother saw he was different than his friends, girls were the last thing on his mind, and his father was starting to take notice.

Gil struggled with his sexuality through most of his high school career, and though the girls were desperate to date him on account of his startling features, he would only humor them on occasion, accompanying them to movies and to semi-formal dances. His parents didn't bring it up, obviously hoping against hope that they're instincts were all wrong. Gil would go away
to college in the fall, and from college he would tell them, he would set them straight and hope for the best.

It was only when he met Seth that Gil truly felt he had come home. That he had found someone who had fought the same hard thoughts that he had fought, coming to the conclusion that he was different, and that that was alright.
