Earl:
18 years old, 5’10” with a wiry build, his brown hair perpetually windblown, Earl is at first a comical sight, but once a person gets to know Earl, his comic exterior melts away. An intense and fiercely intelligent teenager, Earl excels in every subject at high school effortlessly. His major, a subject close to his heart is history. History fascinates Earl, war, civilizations, and societies.
Earl attracts people to him much like Joel, not looking for the attention, but through his intensity, attracting them all
the same. He can drive a conversation or jump into a debate and argue both sides, often playing the role of the Devil’s advocate. He enjoys the emotions he stirs up in himself as much as in that of his prey. Earl thinks like that. If you’re
not with him, you’re against him. Even if he doesn’t believe in the thing he’s debating or the side he takes, he will confidently and systematically find faults in his rivals argument and chip away at it until they call Mercy.
He is ruled by adrenaline and more often than not is producing more than most. If people are not drawn to Earl they
are repelled. There is no half way. To Earl’s chagrin, teenage girls often fall under the later, his intensity frightening
them off.
Earl’s propensity towards guns and hunting do nothing to improve his image to the opposite sex, but his male friends enjoy the hunter in Earl, who rarely has a problem rallying one of them up to hunt in the woods behind Joel’s parents home.
Though Earl had a dry high school career, dating one girl for 6 months, he really couldn’t see himself fitting the mold
of the hunky boyfriend that held hands in the hallway and made out at their lockers. He would rather keep his private
life private and his emotions in check, always.
After the Apocalypse Earl finds he has finally come home. He feels that everything that has led up to this moment, the fact that he survived the initial blasts, has prepared him for a role in this new world. He is very verbal over what has to happen and answers to Joel as his chosen leader. But Earl is the one that is placed in the position of protector for all his knowledge of war and its history. This is a role he plays well.
In Rebirth Earl finds his footing anew as circumstances seem to force him into a place of power, dividing the house with his hateful words.
